Volunteers needed for rides to the doctors, administrative support, and more.

 

IVCG is one of the only providers of free medical transportation in Connecticut and as such, we are a critical part of the medical infrastructure.  Our medical drivers provide door to door transport for our clients, which involves picking them at home, taking them to their medical destinations, and then returning home.  We don't drive for emergency purposes.  To ensure the safety of both drivers and clients, all drivers must register with IVCG and go through criminal background and driving record checks. All registered volunteers are covered by CIMA liability coverage.

As our driver, you'll determine when and how often you're available; all we ask is that you commit to driving at least twice a month.  You'll sign up for your rides using our online scheduling system, so you decide who, when and where to drive.

Another core program that relies on volunteers is delivery of free groceries to seniors in New Haven County. Every week, IVCG volunteers deliver free groceries to seniors in New Haven County.  As part of this program, you'll drive a route of 8-10 "stops" during the week you select. All volunteers in this program are able to select days that work best for them on a rotating basis. You'll come to St. Paul & St. James Church at Wooster Square in New Haven at approximately 9:15am on "your" Saturday and then head out to make the deliveries.

We also have a "pick-up" program called "Groceries in the Garden."  This involves grocery bags distributed at the Winnett Food Forest in Hamden, CT from 10-11:00am every other Saturday.

Additional volunteers are needed to assist with programs ranging from Durable Medical Equipment (Mae's Closet), Diapers 4 Dignity, Cultivating Connections (social cohesion), Experience Corps (literacy program) and more.
